MATCH RATINGS: Manchester United 0-0 Blackpool (5-4 on penalties) – Reserves

Anders Lindegaard (8) (MOTM)* Returned from his long term injury and performed like he had never been away. He denied Almond with one stunning save in the first half and was the beneficiary of some woeful Blackpool finishing throughout the game and  produced another fine save, again denying Almond, which sent the game into penalties where he was the star of the show, saving two. A great comeback performance and a well deserved clean sheet.

Marnick Vermijl (6): Another solid performance from Vermijl, but solid was all it was. He tended to drift in and out of the game and didn’t see as much of the ball as he usually does, which was more than likely down to our change of formation. Although his attacking threat was minimal, he dealt well defensively.

Scott Wootton (5) Was almost at fault for United conceding a goal early on when a lack of communication between him and centre half partner Reece Brown allowed Bednar in on goal. He did look shaky at times and he did struggle to cope with the big physical presence of Roman Bednar. Read more of this post

MATCH RATINGS: Chelsea 1-4 Manchester United – Reserves

Sam Johnstone (7) Had a quiet first half with very few meaningful saves to make but as we eased off the gas in second half, he was called upon frequently and did very well with what was thrown at him. Could do nothing about Chelsea’s fine consolation.

Marnick Vermijl (6) Struggled to make an impact on this game. Was very quiet while he was on the pitch. He didn’t do his trademark tireless runs up and down the right flank. Did not do anything of note. Was substituted in the second half.

Michael Keane (7) This young lad is turning out to be a fine centre half. He was rock solid all game. Strong in the air and hard in the tackle, he did not put a foot wrong all afternoon, even setting up his brother Will with a raking pass for his goal. Read more of this post

MATCH RATINGS: Manchester United 6-3 Newcastle United – Reserves

Sam Johnstone (6) Could do absolutely nothing about the three conceded goals. Had one shaky moment in the first half when he parried a very catchable shot into the path of a Newcastle striker, which thankfully, was blazed over the bar.

Marnick Vermijl(6) Had a good game, without being spectacular. He was defensively solid and as usual, his first instinct was to bomb forward. Hit one magnificent cross field pass into the path of Lingard who was unlucky not to score.

Michael Keane (7) Was very good defensively and carried the ball out of defence well. Was not at fault for any of the conceded goals and was largely untested in the second half. Read more of this post
