Sir Alex Ferguson has today confirmed that Manchester United will be looking to strengthen the squad with further signings. Speaking at the official press conference, he said:

“We could possibly bring one or two more in. When there’s a major international tournament on, there’s a delay in the transfer market.

“But now the European Championships are over, we’re trying to bring one more player in.”

New boys Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell were also officially unveiled as Manchester United players in their first press conference. The new asian sensation following the deparkture of Ji Sung, Kagawa is hoping to establish himself in the first team squad and help United push for silverware next season.

Sir Alex Ferguson is excited to see what the young playmaker can bring to the squad:

“He’ll play further forward [than Powell]. We shouldn’t be looking at one player changing the way we play but he could make a difference. He can give us that extra in the final third of the field. If his goalscoring record continues he could be a very good player for us.”

18-year-old Nick Powell, considered one of England’s finest young talents, comes from Crewe Alexandra in what is a fast moving career. A fine performance and stunning goal in the play-off final showcased what he can do and with Pogba, Morrison and Fryers all leaving United’s reserves in the last 12 months, it is a great move for both the club and the player and Nick Powell is happy to be a United player:

“This is a whole different world. The players have been fantastic, very nice and welcoming.”

So if Sir Alex Ferguson is speaking the truth, United are not finished in the transfer market this summer. With names like Lucas, Modric, Baines and Moutinho all fly about, your guess is as good as mine as to what player it is but we all hope that our cries for a central midfielder will finally be answered.
