Ronnie Wallwork – Whatever happened to him?

A product of the youth system, United had high hopes for Ronnie

After knocking up 77 appearances for the youth team and winning the FA Youth Cup along the way in 1995, as well as picking up the Young Player of the Year Award in 1996, he got called up to the U20 England team and appeared in all 4 matches in the competition before England bowed out at the round of 16 to Argentina. His time at United was short lived however as SAF brought in Laurent Blanc and Juan Sebastian Veron which all spelled the end of his time at United, which was a shame considering how much promise he had at United in his youth days. He went on to make 93 appearances for West Bromwich Albion and even picked up the Player of the Year Award in 2005 but a knife-attack in a club in Manchester ended any chances of repeating the feat. Since then, he has suffered a bit of a lapse in credibility.

Ronnie Wallwork has pleaded guilty to handling stolen cars after being arrested last year at Manchester Airport in connection with a police operation to tackle serious crime. He could face jail time but has been released on bail and will face sentencing later this year. He hasn’t exactly had the life of a Premier League footballer now has he? Not everyone is destined for success but it is a shame his life turned out this way. Each to their own.
